LEER EN ESPAÑOL

CLA assists clients with a variety of immigration matters, including:

Naturalizing (becoming a U.S. Citizen)

Naturalization is the process by which someone applies to be a citizen based on their well-documented, eligible status. There are many requirements pertaining to eligibility. Something of the utmost importance to note: only Lawful Permanent Residents—green card holders—are eligible to apply for naturalization. Click here to learn more about naturalization

Adjustment of status (getting a green card)

Getting a Green Card through Your Spouse or other Immediate Relative. One common way for someone to get a green card is for their spouse to sponsor them. This is a complicated situation and requires a detailed evaluation of the specific situation. Contact CLA for a full evaluation. CLA also handles adjustments through other qualifying Immediate Relatives. Click here to learn more about spousal adjustments of status.

VAWA and U Visa applications

U Visas. If you are undocumented and have been the victim of a serious crime while in the U.S., you should consult with CLA or another qualified immigration attorney about the possibility of applying for a U Visa. A U Visa is for victims of certain crimes who have suffered mental or physical abuse and are helpful to law enforcement or government officials in the investigation or prosecution of that crime. Click here for more information about U Visas.

VAWA - Violence Against Women Act. A VAWA application is a visa petition for battered spouses, parents and children of U.S. Citizens or lawful permanent residents. Similar to the U Visa, a VAWA application provides a path for victims of domestic violence to apply for a green card, but it is based on the applicant’s relationship to their abuser, who must be a U.S. Citizen or green card holder.

DACA and TPS renewals

TPS - Temporary Protected Status. TPS is a type of temporary immigration status that gets designated for a particular country when USCIS determines that conditions in the country prevent the country's nationals from returning home safely. TPS is available to people who are already in the U.S. but can’t return to their home country. TPS has been designated after natural disasters, the outbreak of war or a severe political crisis. Click here to learn more about TPS.

DACA - Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. DACA allows some people who came to the United States as children, who meet certain criteria, to request consideration of deferred action for a period of two years, subject to renewal. They are also eligible for work authorization. Click here to learn more about DACA.
