CLA is dedicated to people, not issues. Founded by longtime public interest lawyers with deep professional and personal ties to Long Island and NYC, CLA is committed to providing holistic, multi-disciplinary services to address the variety of clients’ legal needs.

Community Legal Advocates of New York is a private, non-profit organization that is dedicated to closing the social justice gap by advancing the rights of low and moderate income clients. Consistent with the vision of its founders, CLA provides free or low cost holistic civil legal and advocacy services to residents of Long Island and NYC.

Public Benefits Denials
Advocacy for low income communities regardless of immigration status is at the heart of CLA’s mission. CLA seeks to maximize a household’s income by representing clients on matters relating to Public Assistance, SNAP (Food Stamps), Medicaid, Social Security and SSI.
Wills and Advance Planning
CLA helps low and moderate income individuals and their families plan for the future by preparing Wills, Health Care Proxies and Powers of Attorney.
