NYIC AmeriCorps VISTA
CLA seeks a motivated self-starter with a passion for service and advocacy to serve as our NYIC Americorps VISTA. CLA’s NYIC VISTA will support the advancement of immigrants’ rights through indirect, capacity-building work.
NYIC VISTAs are Americorps VISTAs who--through the New York Immigration Coalition (NYIC)--engage in a year of full-time paraprofessional service at CLA, where they work on various capacity-building projects. Click here to learn more about the NYIC VISTA program.
CLA’s NYIC VISTA will focus on fundraising, as well as developing CLA’s prospective Pro Bono Project. The VISTA’s activities will primarily include grant research and writing, recruitment of volunteer, pro bono private attorneys and the creation and development of the Pro Bono Project. Secondary activities include maintaining CLA’s communications and social media presence as well as supporting the development of CLA’s internal workflow and communication procedures. The ability to speak a second language is a plus.

Term of Service
September 4, 2018 - September 3, 2019
In order to be eligible for an NYIC VISTA position, one must be:
18 years of age or older
a U.S. citizen, national, or legal permanent resident, or have Refugee status, Asylum, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) or Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA)
During their year of service, NYIC VISTA @ CLA will be supported with the following benefits:
Living allowance stipend ($20,641)
Choice of healthcare allowance ($7,150) or a health plan
Choice of a year-end education award ($5,815) or cash stipend ($1,803)
Eligibility for benefits such as:
Relocation allowance (up to $1,000)
Settling-in allowance (up to $550)
Child care support (up to $400 per month per child)
An AmeriCorps VISTA pre-service orientation facilitated by the Corporation for National and Community Service (CNCS)
4-day NYIC VISTA Training on core skills/knowledge areas (e.g., leadership, social justice), NYIC VISTA focus areas (e.g., volunteer management, communications, fundraising) and immigration issues and their intersections with poverty issues
A 2-day mid-year NYIC VISTA Training
Monthly NYIC VISTA webinars
Ongoing check-ins, guidance and support from the NYIC
